Finally Getting Somewhere With Getting Somewhere to Live! AKA: It's Officially Ours!!

Whew! What a busy few days the last ones have been! Let's see...where to start....

Ok, so on Monday we were supposed to turn in our pre contract to the housing office at 2:30pm. She called me around noon and told me to meet her at the Dome. I did and went to meet her. She tells me that the landlord does not want to pay for internet or cable. Ok, not a big deal. We do not want cable anyway and do not mind paying for internet. Especially since it will only be about $30 or so a month. Not a big deal! So our realtor calls the property manager and is asking when we can get the pre-contract and everything. So what it comes down to, is we end up going to meet the property manager at her work office to hopefully pick up the pre-contract. We get there and the manager tells us she has been trying to talk to the landlord all morning but he is not picking up or answering her texts. He told her he would be in a meeting but she had hoped he would be out sooner.

While we were there, I swear, she called him and his daughter at least 6 times and texted them as well. Without the go ahead from him though, she could not sign the pre-contract and give it to me. After about 30 minutes of waiting around to hear back from the landlord, the realtor and I left and we decided I would get the pre-contract the next day, Tuesday. The property manager called and talked to the housing office for me to make sure this was ok and they said it was fine.

Now, it is Tuesday morning about 7:45 so I text the realtor:

7:47AM---->Any word on the pre-contract yet? Sorry so early! just want to get it to them!

I just tex her I'm waiting for her answer. I will cal u as soon as got it.

10:04AM--->Fem called me she said she is goin to otis landlord cal her.. Tex u when everything ok.
                      Ok.

Then, she called me around 11:00 telling me to go back to the manager's office to get the pre-contract. The landlord gave her the go ahead and she could sign it and give it to me. Yey! Well, crap. How the hell do I get back to this place?! I was pretty sure I knew but it was hit or miss whether I would make it there without getting lost...30 minutes later, I did it!

So I go in and meet Femi to get the pre-contract. She shows me all the paperwork that I am supposed to have and I glance at it all and it seems to all be in order. So I head back out to my car a head on over to base. Around 12:00 I get back to the housing office and ask to see a Mr. Vivian. Unfortunately, he is not there so another gentleman comes out to help me. We go back to his office and he starts looking through all of the paperwork. Then we notice, the property manager forgot to sign the pre-contract. Ugh! So no pre-contract for us that time! He says that I can go and have it signed and bring it back, no problem. Unfortunately, it is now 12:30 and the housing office closes at 1PM on Tuesdays! What the heck?! We both doubt that I will be able to make it to the property manager's office and then back to base in time so he tells me he can see me the next day, Wednesday. Ok.

I leave base and call the property manager and let her know that she forgot to sign the pre-contract! She asks where I am and I tell her that I am on my way to my hotel but I can stop by her office to have her sign the paper. I'm not sure if she didn't understand or what but she says she will have the
realtor swing by the hotel and sign it for her. She was already in the area showing places to another couple in my hubby's command anyway so not a big deal. I tell her ok and they start actually heading to my hotel. I turn right for our hotel where I would have turned left for the property manager's office. Then, the realtor calls me and sounds confused when I tell her I am still in Juffair and is wondering why the property manager is having her sign instead of just having me come back to her office. Aye yae yae! So the realtor tells me to just go to the property manager's office. Ok. Well, crap. The only way I know how to get there is to loop ALL the way back around like I am going to base. I know this is so damn far out of the way but I have no idea how to get back there from where I am.

So I go all the way around to dry dock highway and back around past base and back to where I would have turned left, and then turned left instead of right. Ugh. I end up back at the property manager's office and get the paperwork signed. We are laughing about it but secretly I want to kill someone because of all the driving I had done that day. After I get that papers back, signed and everything!, I went back to our hotel and waited for hubby to get home.

The next day, Wednesday, I took everything into housing and got the pre-contract all made up and done. They gave me a condition list to take back to the property and comment and notate the condition of everything that is at the property. So I call up the realtor and ask her if I can get the keys but she already gave them back to the property manager. So she says she will call me back and when she does she says to just go meet the property manager at her office to get the keys.

I go to her office, no big deal, and she had to leave the keys at the front desk because she had to leave to a doctor's appointment. I go in and get them. Then as I am about the leave, the property manager sees me. She hasn't left yet so she wanted to make sure I got the keys ok. All good! I head out to go to the house. I get there and start going over my list. Nothing is really in too bad of shape but I make sure I note every little scratch and every little ding. Like I said, nothing too big but we don't want to be charged for something we did not do.

Thursday is our lease signing and we now had everything we needed for that day. Yey!

Wednesday night, hubby had watch so I didn't expect him to be home but he was able to come home after his watch at midnight.  He had to be at housing with me the next morning anyway so they let him just come home and sleep in with me! We got up about 7:10 am, got ready, and headed out. We got to base around 7:45. We get up to the gate and we have to wait outside for the property manager because we have to escort her onto base since she doesn't have a DOD ID. She didn't get there until right at 8! Luckily, the gentleman we had the appointment walked in right past us and knew whom we were waiting for so he knew we would be a few late. It all worked out.

We get to housing and don't have to wait long before we are called back to do our lease! We went into a back office with a table, we all sat down, and the property manager and hubby got to signing. Everything went fine. The property manager did not know that housing changed it where you have to turn in your condition list at signing instead of within 15 days so she wanted me to do a walk through with the other property manager.

Today, Saturday, is when I finally did the walk through with the other property manager. Really, there was not much point to it. She is going to make sure they clean the place really well for us and she actually pointed out a few things I missed! That surprised me but it is nice to know that she doesn't want her boss, the owner, to charge us for stuff we did not do! She also answered a few of the questions I had about trash, internet, water, gas, etc. Honestly, it went really well and she seems really nice. Man, she sure is a talker though!!

While at the villa, I also got to meet the maintenance guy and, he too, seemed nice. Seemed very willing to fix anything that was wrong. The manager and I just showed him what needed to be cleaned and fixed and he was on it!

After I left the villa, I came back to the hotel to pick up a friend to go get lunch. We went to Chili's over at the lagoon and had a really nice lunch. It was only the second time we had actually met and the first time we really got to talk other than on the internet but she was super nice. I feel safe saying I think we have what has the potential to be a really good friendship! It is great to know another wife from hubby's command.

The last few days have been very productive and I am so glad we finally get to move into our place on the 25th!! Pictures to come, of course.....

Until Next time...
